Professionally my name is Dr. Houtan, but most of my patients call me Dr. Hout :)
I am a naturopathic doctor in Scottsdale, Arizona. I help patients improve their fertility, balance hormones, improve digestion, etc. I love what I do!
An adjective (What is your superpower?):
My superpower is that I make people feel comfortable around me. I think it’s something that my mother unknowingly cultivated in me from a young age.
2. What does your work aim to say/do?
My work is that of guiding people to live their healthiest life. I aim to teach my patients what they need to do in order to drink clean water, eat the freshest food, and keep their organs healthy for the rest of their lives.
3. What is the best or most worthwhile investment you’ve ever made? Could be investment of money, time, energy, etc.
Is it too obvious to say that the most worthwhile investment I’ve made has been in myself? Going to medical school, working on healing myself, finding the love of my life and nurturing that relationship into the beautiful entity that it is now are all worth their weight in gold to me.
4. If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it - metaphorically speaking, getting a message to millions, what would it say and why?
I would love to do this. I would tell people to TRULY heal themselves. Whatever underlying trauma is there, whatever they’re holding back from accomplishing for themselves, I’d tell them to DO IT.
Life is far too short to be miserable. Do what needs to be done so that you can live a joyful life.
5. What obsessions do you explore in the evenings or the weekends?
Oh I am completely enamored by fashion. I love to find new, amazing pieces of clothing to add to my collection (that’s right, I no longer have a “closet”, I have a “collection”!). If I could blend my naturopathic medical career with fashion, that would be a dream. For now, fashion is just something that I love to explore.
6. What is an unusual habit or an absurd thing that you love?
I don’t think it’s absurd, but I’m a connoisseur of 100% chocolate. You know, the bars of chocolate that don’t have any sugar? That’s my jam. I love the bitterness and complexity of flavor and the fact that no two bars are ever the same! Most people don’t get it, but I love it.
7. What are the bad recommendations/fads you hear in your profession or area of expertise?
Sadly, I am disappointed by my field more and more these days. I’m disappointed that we don’t advocate for medical freedom as much as we should, I’m disappointed that we trust entities which have never cared about our wellness, and I’m disappointed that so many of my colleagues are sheep who follow trends rather than REAL science. The number of doctors that I truly trust to take care of patients is dwindling, and I can count them on two hands.
